For the Home:: Pink Perfection

After years as a raging tomboy, I had a life changing experience with red lipstick and began a journey into the girly years for whence I hope to never emerge. That being said, I have always loved pink, even when the only pink I wore was a Pink Floyd t-shirt over baggy jeans (gotta love the 90s). I would love to find new ways of incorporating pink into my home but I have to negotiate space with the fella and I don't know how in favor he would be of my color scheme. We'll continue negotiations...

There is a difference between a soft hue and a Barbie palace nightmare.

What if we painted only half the walls pink??

I do the cooking so I should pick the color of the kitchen. In fairness, he does the dishes. I hate dishes.

Alright, alright, maybe we could just highlight in pink?

Mid-Week Motivation

Sometimes, it's helpful to take a moment to remember that people are terribly fragile creatures.
Most of us are a little off. We all just have to learn to live with it.

Idea Day:: More Music

I need to listen to more music. For those of you who know me, that might sound like a ridiculous statement. I listen to music constantly. I always have music playing as I go about my day. However, I get caught up in listening to the same albums again and again (and again and again). I write for YabYum Music and Arts, an Arizona blog intent on supporting the local arts movement. Most of the music I listen to comes from Arizona artists which is both a blessing and a curse. I love love love the music coming out of AZ right now. This is a vital time for our community and I'm excited to be a part of it. Writing about music, however, means knowing about music. I need to listen to more music. I can't give two weeks to uninterrupted Lana del Rey or Silver Jews. I'll share my favorite finds.

Of the Painted Choir - Lula
This is a great AZ album I reviewed here.
Listen to Of the Painted Choir here.

The Pretty Things - S.F. Sorrow
I never heard of this album before I came across it on a list of influential albums. Shameful, perhaps, but it is better to know the gaps in our education so we can fill them in. The full album is on YouTube here. I prefer Spotify.

Lana del Rey - Born to Die
Maybe I'll just listen to it once or twice this week...
Here's a link to her video for Video Games. You should watch it.
Listen to her album here.

Healthy Meal Planning

At this very moment, I have a crockpot full of black beans, butternut squash, mustard greens, and brown rice brewing for a healthy evening meal tonight. Snap. After dinner I'm going on a super grocery trip to load up on a ton of fruits and veggies for the week to come! I figure I should pull together some recipes so I'm not spending the whole week modge-podging recipes together out of whatever I happen to have whimsically purchased. As always, with recipes, just click the image for the recipe.

Quick Chickpea Curry
We love curry dishes at bluehouse but we always rely on pre-made sauces for our "homemade" curries. This week I'm hoping to branch out.

Crustless Kale Quiche
I have too many eggs. I must do something with them this week or risk wasting them (gasp). This seems like a healthy means of ridding myself of excess eggs and making use of some fresh kale.

Homemade Pico de Gallo
We love fresh salsa but have yet to attempt concocting it in our own kitchen. The time has come.

Pad Thai
Umm. Delicious. This is a dish I always head out for and have never made at home. This recipe seems like a great way to try my hand at Thai food.

Wish Me Luck!!

Fashion Friday:: Black and White

There's nothing quite so dramatic as contrast. Whether funky or classic, vintage or modern, complimentary or contradictory, black & white works!

For the Home:: Splashes of Vintage

 I know it's usually a splash of color that one adds to a room but, if that colorful piece is also retro-fabulous, doesn't it make it all the more eye-popping? Indeed. Go bright to draw extra attention to the special find you want to feature in your home.

I am loving this lamp in a serious way.

What a great patio chair, or should I say, throne?

A telephone table?! The cuteness overwhelms me sometimes.

Rustic doesn't need to mean muted colors.

Mid-Week Motivation:: Laugh a Little

Laughing is good for your soul. Take a moment to laugh at something ridiculous, maybe yourself if you're anything like me. Just gotta keep trying and don't take everything so seriously, or so I keep telling myself. My fella and I laugh together and we dance together which leads to more laughing together. And, very occasionally, we sing California Dreaming at the dinner table together when no one else is around. Something below has to tickle your funny bone, no matter what type of humorous appeal you're looking for.

Idea Day:: Homemade Cleaning Products

Tuesday was previously devoted to any randomness I wanted to share. In a way, that's what every day is... Anyhoo, I'm using this space to document the ideas I'm putting into action this year. We're making the switch to non-toxic cleaning products in our home. Right  now, there is a jar of vinegar and citrus peels mingling on my kitchen counter. I'll keep you posted with the results of this endeavor. It should be ready to go in about a week!

Healthy Meal Planning

I am in the process of changing my health habits. I have been moving toward a more plant-based, whole foods diet and increasing my daily exercise. I started a fitness blog (shh!) and hope to see some positive changes in my overall health during the year to come. The fella and I have already embarked upon our journey to better health. We've joined a local crop share to introduce new vegetables to our routine. We got rid of the soda and sweets from around the house. We eat at home with increasing regularity. We've switched the majority of what we eat to local, organic foods. We also had hot dogs at Short Leash today after we finished shopping at the Farmer's Market so let's not get too crazy.

Last night I made Sweet Potato & Black Bean Burritos. They were amazing. I added a ton of bell peppers and purple cabbage in addition to the roasted sweet potatoes and black beans. More good things planned for this week...

Art Day:: Former Babies

My fella came across this album and shared it with me. It's amazing.

Former Babies
The Blackout Album
Listen here.

They're so much fun, in fact, we at YabYum gave them a little award

I can't stay away...

In the weeks away from this blog, I have come to realize how much I rely on this space to organize my projects and my plans... It's worth me putting the time into organizing posts because I am simultaneously structuring my week, laying out my clothes, and meal planning. I also use this space to get out my thoughts and ideas on what I encounter during the week.

All that being said, no one should read this drivel. It is solely for me and not created with any thought given toward developing content for others. This is my apology and warning. Xoxoxo

The Break Continues

I've decided to continue my hiatus here on Frabjous Fox. I hope I'll be able to take up the ropes again sometime in the future but other writing projects are consuming too much of my time right now. For all you Arizona folk, feel free to keep tabs on me here - my mainstay.
