NEW COMPUTER, or why I've been missing

Lucy, the red Dell, gave up on life. I hope to use her remaining charge to retrieve my novel-in-progress, pictures, and music - in that order. Think energy-efficient thoughts.

Sonya, my new dark mistress, is also a Dell. Alas, poverty. She has forced me into the confusion that is Windows 7. We're transitioning together.

That being said, can't wait to get back to it...

Here is a moment of Randomness brought to you by my brief absence from the blog.

Foxy Fashion: Getting Ready for Summer?

I know Spring just started, but in Phoenix the temperature is starting to feel more like summer. So today's foxy fashion post is brought to you by the impending summer. What says summer more than adorable bathing suits? Nothing. This year I'm really excited about the vintage-style swimwear I've been finding...

Books: Best Opening Lines

I love reading. I love books. I especially love a great opening line. Stylist complied a list of the best opening lines from literature and while I disagree on some finer points they did manage some stellar selections... below are a few of my favorites. Head here for the complete list!

“It was inevitable: the scent of bitter almonds always reminded him of the fate of unrequited love.” Love in the Time of Cholera Gabriel Garcia Marquez
"Far out in the uncharted backwaters of the unfashionable end of the Western Spiral arm of the Galaxy lies a small unregarded yellow sun." The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy Douglas Adams
"Lolita, light of my life, fire of my loins." Lolita Vladimir Nabokov
"We were somewhere around Barstow on the edge of the desert when the drugs began to take hold." Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas Hunter S. Thompson

Art Saturdays: Feeling Feist.y.

It was a good day for being productive... or so I thought. Turns out it was a good day for laying about the bluehouse and napping with the fam. Here's a great tune for whiling away the time on a weekend!

Friendly Friday: Shout Out... to myself, I guess

Friday I'd like to reserve for sharing a favorite website or blog. This first Friday, however, I decided to call out my other online locale. For going on three years now, I've worked with YabYum Music and Arts, an Arizona-only publication focused on promoting local music, arts, and culture. I began the publications shortly after returning from California where I was attending school. Occasionally, I may cross paths between YabYum and what I post here. If you have further interest in Arizona arts, music, everything... check out YabYum.

Here are a few things you should check out from the site no matter where you're from...

Michelle Blades, Mariana... a wonderful album off local label River Jones Music
check out the album here. read my review here

Thai Rivera, fabulously abrasive comedian...
read my article on Thai here.

Favorite Resale Shops, Not Too Shabby in North Phoenix.

Householder: Bohemian Clutter

I have an eclectic sense of style and a soft spot for tchotchkes... in other words I have a mismatched home brimming with nonsense. I like to ascribe my clutter-y tendencies to a bohemian sensibility as it sounds more respectable that way. Today's householder post is inspired by that same line of thinking. Boho can be charming but one must be wary of how easily careful clutter can fall into disarray, i.e. my home.

Mid-Week Motivator: Eleanor

Getting my tuckus in gear can be tricky particularly in the early morning hours and in the evening (which is the only time I can walk outdoors given certain sunlight restrictions). Last summer, however, my boyfriend acquiesced to a request for a puppy and we found Eleanor! More than a welcome addition to our family, Eleanor has become my tried-and-true companion.  Every morning and every evening she insists on outside time. The hardest step is that first one our the door and Eleanor is the push that gets me going some days (not every day but almost).

If you are a dog owner, choose to be better to your creature and yourself. If you have considered becoming a pet owner, add tenacious exercise companion to the reasons to opt in. We found Eleanor through the Arizona Humane Society where countless other animals await a walking buddy.

Go for walks as frequently as you can. It's good for the soul. I aim for two walks daily. Usually, I make that goal both for my sake and for Eleanor's.

How could you not take her for a walk?

First Days!

Today is the first day of Spring! I'm a sucker for a new beginning and any opportunity to mark one sends me running toward new goals. I'm motivating myself to get blogging! Today is also a day of celebration at bluehouse because my plants have officially survived the winter. I'm trying desperately to overcome my "Merchant of Death" status before the revolution requires I start growing my own food.  Fingers crossed!

Here's a real picture from my own garden of a persistent plant that is seeing spring for the first time. Take that, death! I'm a nurturer!
