Fashion Friday:: Summer Styles

Summer always arrives early in Phoenix. We really only have two seasons here: the hot season and the not-as-hot season. I love Arizona but I am not a super fan of the weather. I hate it when people tell you to move when they hear complaints about the heat... as if lamentations against 110+ temperatures mean one belongs in Wisco. I can complain about the Conservatives but not about the heat? This might come as a surprise to some, but some folks choose location based on things other than weather, i.e. family, etc.

Oh well. Summer means short sleeves and shorter shorts!
There's always something to celebrate.

For the Home:: Crafting

I love the little things that make up a home. The art on the walls. The knickknacks and tchotchkes. There's nothing like a few handcrafted pieces to really kick up the homegrown comfort level. I'm planning some projects to add one or two such items to my home. Here are my fav ideas from the interwebs...

I hate stupid, ugly router boxes. Apparently, I'm not alone in this because I found this tutorial for an adorable router-hiding box. I can always find some damaged or unwanted books for a new project. If you don't need to hide your router perhaps you can find some other eyesore to tuck away!

I know, I know, how many mason jar crafts are out there?! Nevertheless, I found myself in possession of several mason jars recently and had to consider how they might be best put to use. This in my preferred idea thus far...

Ooo, maybe I could make a bright wreath for above the fireplace to help hold onto springtime just a little bit longer? My tulips died so quickly this year, I just might be in favor of a little lasting color this time round like with this wreath from Daulhouse on Etsy.

C A L I F O R N I A

I love the ocean. It was a lovely trip. Good to be home.

We saw dolphins. DOLPHINS.

Monday Meal Planning

The thing about cooking is that there is always more cooking to do. Sort of like cleaning, the other bane of my existence. Once you feed your family, they start to expect food with regularity. It's just not fair.

Vacation!!

My fella hit the big 3-0 last week. I feel we're both ready to be in our 30s now. I've been threatening to downgrade to a younger model for a couple years now once this day came but it turns out I'm rather attached at this point. Sigh... I guess I'll have to relinquish my Duras fantasy of drinking and writing in a Paris apartment with my much, much younger lover. It was to be my greatest feminist achievement. Oh well, I have other goals. We're heading out to Encintas tomorrow but he doesn't know that. It's supposed to be a surprise. That means I have until Yuma to convince him we're actually just going to Yuma. Ha. Not that I'm not all about my home state. Yuma, well, is Yuma. Good things come from there (like musician Bryant Vazquez) but it's not exactly a happening vacation spot.

For my 30th birthday, the fella and my bestie took me to the Biosphere 2, a lifelong dream realized. I can, at least, bring him to the ocean. Right next to Moonlight Beach which sounded just right for my anti-sun tendencies. See you on the flip side, darlings!

Fashion Friday:: Beach Living

Yesterday was my fella's birthday so today we're off on adventures! My thoughts on fashion for this Friday are very beach-oriented... a step away from my usual kitschy for a funeral director's daughter look. Summer is upon us, after all. Why not rock some shorter dresses? Who's with me?!

For the Home:: Storage Solutions

I am still moving things around trying to figure out the best arrangement for things around the new house. It is a trying time. I've assembled some inspiring home organization images to keep me on course! Allow me to share...

Mid-Week Motivation:: Yoga Johnny!

This past week my sister-in-law asked me what a "Johnny" was because I apparently attach the adage to variety of words depending on what is being discussed at the time, i.e. "That dude is a total Workout Johnny." No, really, I talk like this all the time. I defined a "Johnny" as a "person who does something" - eh? I should probably add "frequently" or "well" to the end of that statement but I don't know if that is always the case. I really want to kick up the yoga practice until I am a total Yoga Johnny. See how well that works? I've been doing yoga everyday this week! I'm all about starting off the day with a good morning stretch like with this yoga routine I posted a while back.

A great website for an array of free yoga videos that you can stream online is DoYogaWithMe.com. I highly recommend perusing their selection of stretchy options.

Happy Stretching!

Random Tuesday:: I can't be confined!!

I have relinquished Idea Day and gone back to Randomness on Tuesday. Sometimes I want to discuss an idea, sometimes I just want to discuss my favorite color of the week. Take it or leave it. To kick of the return of Random Tuesday here are some random links to improve your week...

A great blog for beautiful things, from art to fashion and beyond like this painting by Ryan Pickart.

The "home of unusual luxury" is more of a place to window shop, for me, rather than personal investing. I might, however, save up for this Air Suit.

A great site for random discoveries like these Zoo Portraits.

This is a bit of a shameless plug, but I have re-committed myself to my book blog. Stop by and see what I've been reading.

Monday Meal Planning

I've been doing well with my kitchen adventures: a manageable burn here and there, the occasionally ruined meal followed by takeout, and some surprisingly successful meals to make it all worthwhile. I'm ready to branch out further. Maybe kick up the difficulty level a smidge? Maybe. We'll see. This week I'm also ready to put my new vintage Pyrex casserole dishes to good use. I found a couple while thrifting with my mother and have yet to test their functionality. Thus far, I've only been caught up in their adorableness.

This would fit nicely in my casserole dish... And, I do love eggplant. I had to use the translation option to get the recipe in English (it was in Polish).

Quinoa is the magic word in our house these days. I just tried my first quinoa pasta last week and it was awesome. Can't wait to try this one!

We try to avoid meat, for the most part, but both the fella and I harbor a love of meatball subs that stems from the early years. A lentil meatball sub?? I was immediately sold.

Oh, eggplant. How I love you so.
