Swamped!

Moving to a new house can turn everything upside down and it has. The fella and I have to keep repeating that the house will never be as messy as it is right now. Never again! My hands are reacting to the cardboard in a very hostile way. Can't wait to get all settled in. Until then, please forgive any delays in posts. This is an across the board fiasco. I need rest and some sort of topical cream. Amid all the chaos, I am trying to cook dinner as often as I can. My current plan of attack in the battle against CPH is to eliminate all processed foods and scary chemicals from my home and diet. Doing well except for the cardboard-contact-rash. Toxins are very bad things, FYI.

Right now, I"m just daydreaming of a quiet reading spot.

Monday Meal Planning

I'm so excited to be in the new house. I'm just starting to get settled in my new (and smaller) kitchen and finding ways to make the space work for me. I christened the Kitschen tonight with the Curried Eggplant with Tomatoes and Basil recipe from last week (see here). It worked out swell. Can't wait t to try out some new dishes this week while maintaining the health trend. As always (unless I've made some error somewhere), just click the link or the image to check out the recipe!

I think I'm going to bust out the tortilla bowl maker (thanks Kim!) on this one. Maybe I'll wait til the avocados are ripe and add guacamole.

omg. This recipe sounds so delicious I am dumbstruck by the possibilities. I just so happen to have some Arizona-made DeCio Pasta on hand already. I'm thinking Pesto Pasta with Cesar Salad (a personal favorite).

My fella has only recently allowed soups into his eating regime. He maintained a long-standing aversion to any and all soups. He doesn't like soups to be too soupy. He also doesn't like anything cream-based. I should add here that he will eat just about anything I cook with a supportive enthusiasm, but I try to work with his slightly particular palate. When I attempt this soup, I believe I will finally attempt homemade bread as well after several weeks of broken promises to myself.

I've been aching to try a homemade vegetarian burger. This one sounds awesome.

Healthy, delicious, and colorful? Yes, please, and thank you. I might make this to accompany the Black Bean Burgers up above. Who knows?

See you on the flip side!

Until then, I leave you with this thought...

For the Home:: Boho Inspiration

I love a bohemian sense of style. The bright colors and mixed patterns, the crossing of cultural influences and personal collections. As I get ready to pull together new spaces, I wanted to take a moment to ponder the boho possibilities. Thanks for sharing.

Mid-Week Motivation

This week is kicking my tuckus! Nothing gets me to mellow out quite like laughter. Hopefully, something here will get you to do the same...

I love algebra. I also love math jokes. Judge me. I don't care.

Just another poor person in need of healthcare.
Why do I want to live longer?

Oh, how true this is.
I'm going to start re-reading all my textbooks.

This is my favorite.

I love America.

I Miss Cooking

     My kitchen is in a state of transition. Yesterday, the biddies (my mother and my aunt) gathered to get the move moving along. Everything in the kitchen got packed up and sent on its way. I can even make a bowl of cereal. Clearly, there was some questionable prioritizing of the household goods, but the biddies were ready to demolish some project so we decided to take it on. It has given us an excuse to tour our favorite healthy eateries as part of our nuhouse (testing the name) health kick! Tonight we ate at Pita Jungle! Macro Platter por vida!
     Sorry, I diverge. I can't wait to get settled in my new kitchen! I plan to put it to go use. Healthy, fresh, unprocessed food... mmmm, hippie food. I'll throw something sneaky in there somewhere, I'm sure. I still have to test out the new French cookbook I received during the holidays. I'm day dreaming about new quinoa recipes. Lame, but I don't care. I'm excited and I don't give an F (still not swearing). I would like to take a moment to share some of recipes cooking only in my brain for the time being. Soon, however, I will regain access to my cooking swag and I can wreak havoc once again!

Moving Week

Welcome to my nightmare...

picture borrowed from here

Packing and moving and unpacking. F me in the A. The fella and I have also picked the wrong time in our lives to give up swear words. What the F ever. I am tired and sore and I have five days left. That doesn't include cleaning the old place which will the bane of my existence next week. The good news? I should be all cleaned up and settled in by the first of March and I get to return to my real life and my normal schedule. Thank JFC. Thank you and goodnight.

Art Day:: Body Art

I have several tattoos. Seven, if we want to get specific. Most of them reflect an earlier time in my life defined by impulse and are in need of some reworking. I've been thinking about new ink of late. I love the idea of the body being such a temporal art project. The medical students who one day dissect me might be able to draw something of my character other than bad lungs and a propensity for sugar-laden foods.

Fashion Friday:: Gowns and Glamour

Ugh, a week of packing underway and I've grown weary of my workout wear becoming my apparel for everyday. Movement requires cotton and t-shirts. I'm ready for a gown party...

I know a certain sassy, aspiring writer (other than myself)
who could totally rock the Marilyn gown.

No matter how tastefully simple the cut of the gown,
the right red will make it erupt.

The classic black dress gets a little more exciting
with the threat of unintended exposure.

A short, red frock?
Velvet keeps it gown-esque.

For the Home:: Kitchen Gadgets!

The new kitchen is a bit smaller than my current one but it has a lot more storage options so I'm think it will work out for the best. Maybe I can even invest in a couple new kitchen gadgets to increase my recipe options in the new house..?

How useful would this cutting board/scale be
for all those super-pro recipes that list ingredients by weight?

Monster toast every morning.
Wouldn't each day start off better or, at least, cuter?

I would first need a rolling pin.
Then these handy dough-measuring bands.

Love pineapple, hate cutting it.
Problem solved.

Idea Tuesday:: New Message Board

I want to craft a new message board for me and my fella so we can leave each other notes and little reminders. And, I want it to be cute. Here are my ideas...

Digging the chalk globes as a message board.
Just need to figure out where to put them.

This message board gives new meaning to the traditional cork board.
I would need to start drinking more wine, however.

Cute, but
would I have to sew?

Cake Pan Chalk Board,
simple and adorable.

Monday Project:: Valentine's Day!!

    Valentine's Day has long been one of my favorite holidays. I love red and pink and hearts and flowers and chocolate and love. Gross, I know, but it's true so why lie? Anyhoo, with all the packing going on there has been little time for gearing up for the holiday this year.
     My fella and I decided that we should have a nice quiet evening at bluehouse this year because it is our third (and final) V-Day in our first home together. I like to try and plan ahead with my partner for the holiday because I've always been of the mind that it sucks for dudes to have to plan some fancy event and make the arrangements and usually pay for the whole thing. I like to, at least, start a conversation about what we might do so my boyfriend doesn't feel stranded on his own little island in a sea of my expectations. Give the man a paddle or something.
   Being super strapped for cash with the move, I am planning on some homemade goodies for Valentine's Day this year. Who knows if I'll even have access to a kitchen in the coming week so I better throw in a fabulous home-cooked meal as well... or not.

This right here might be my winner.
I make a mean rise krispies treat.

If only I had the time...
a mini jar of pie?!!

A little weird and a lot of love,
I'm about these homemade candy jars.

Chocolate Pomegranate Bark,
full of antioxidants and CHOCOLATE!

Of course, we can't forget the homemade card.
My favorite part of the holiday... maybe.
